Scope and Contents
Robert Cadell (1788-1849) was the partner of Archibald Constable, and, after the dissolution of that partnership in 1825, the sole publisher of Walter Scott's novels. His papers reflect his personal and business relations with Scott and other authors, as well as his family affairs.

The copy was probably begun in 1696 (the date quoted on the title page) and not completed until 1701 or later (34.1.10(iii), folio 294 verso), made apparently by a copyist from the transcripts made by Hay when he was in Scotland between 1686 and 1689.

The register contains copies of papal bulls and other documents concerning the Chapel, dated from 1501 to 1537. The text is all in Lambert`s hand, except for folios 41-42, and there are large calligraphic initials. Each folio is signed by James Primrose, clerk to the Privy Council; this was probably done in 1621 when the Register and other documents of the Chapel Royal were put into his keeping for transfer to the Bishop of Dunblane (see ‘Register of the Privy Council...
